What Could Cause A Dental Implant Failure

To borrow a phrase from your favorite realtor, “Location, Location, Location.” Yes, location is a critical element when I’m beginning the process of your dental implant.
Simply stated, the causes of early implant failures are influenced by your overall medical condition, if you have poor quality and quantity of bone and soft tissue, whether or not you grind your teeth, or if you are a smoker. But, implant failure can also be caused by improper placement, based on inadequate surgical analysis. That is why I’m introducing you now to CBCT – or Cone Beam Computed Tomography – an innovative medical imaging technique I use.
CBCT has become increasingly important and is now the preferred method for presurgical assessment of dental implant sites. Here’s how it works: the CBCT scanner rotates around your head, obtaining up to nearly 600 distinct images. The actual X-rays are divergent, forming a “Cone.” The scanning software collects the data and reconstructs it. I am able to get an amazing amount of information from the scans which allows me to meticulously plan your procedure.

As an implant specialist, I study the five CBCT zones in your mouth. Each presents unique demands and clinical requirements. I also take into consideration if you suffer from periodontal disease, or if you’ve had a recent trauma or tooth loss. These conditions need immediate attention, as “bone resorption” occurs, making it difficult to place an implant in a prosthetically favorable position. Among the many factors I consider is the blood supply to the different “zones” in your mouth. We won’t go into here the multitude of extremely technical factors I consider. But, rest assured, we will discuss the procedure, you’ll feel comfortable with it, and I will use my years of experience – and the most state-of-the art technology – to successfully place your dental implant.
